these are the buildings by the river in the city
the river runs through the city and right on down here to where we live
approx thirty miles away
and onwards
http://www.photoshare.co.nz/PhotoShareGallery1/100543/104261/IMG_0037copy18905.jpgthe
shot these quickly yesterday
this picture is showing something of the widest street (as far as I know) in Europe,
O'Connel Street in Dublin
the 'needle' showing in the distance has replaced a space which was left outside the g.p.o. after Nelson's Pillar, a massive tall monument which could be climbed inside .................was blown up in the early sixties

The first shot is great. I'd love to see some of those buildings closeup. I am involved in a lot of historic rehab in cities in Connecticut and there are always a lot of nice details on even the plainest old building.

it's not so good but here is another view of the buildings which I took yesterday.
I have other shots taken over the years.
I like the buildings a lot but they are very old
and new apartments have replaced many of them

Beautiful shots Marie, I love the colours that they use there. "widest street in Europe" why that's just a country lane over here.   Just joking. Our problem is to many cars not enough mass transportation.

the first one is very nice marie.
in highschool we had a poster and that was called "The doors of Dublin"
there where all kinds of colorful doors on it.
must have made a good impression on me that i still remember that after all those years.
i thought about it because of the nicely colored doors in your picture;)

These shots make me miss Ireland!
I never made it to Dublin other than to fly in and out of, but I spent a lot of time in Galway, and the buildings in the first photo remind me exactly of the opposite side of the river from a walk I took one morning... unfortunately, without my camera!
Great shots!

I knew you would be thinking something like that
you should see the streets in moscow
miles wide
and I knew the lack of traffic would be noticed in the picture
it's never like it shows here
that was 6th January
(just gone)
it's the 8th here now:lol:
the 6th was a holy day ..more or less
there were not as many people or traffic around..until later
never saw it so quiet
it's usually jammed tight

in holland all the doors are boring brown or green:confused:I expect too bright colours wouldn't quite look so good on the average door as they do on those georgian doors ...

I see the River Liffey is still just as black as it was when I was there in 2000! That can only mean that St. James Gate is cranking out the Guiness by the barrels!
What I'd give for a pint of that local Guiness! Just doesn't taste the same over here in the States.

I keep coming back to that shot and see something new each time. I love the colors. Five of the buildings look like they were built at the same time - many of the details the same. The other three are different. Is this Dublin? The next time we come to the UK we would like to spend a few days in Ireland.

Jimyes, thanks Jim
those pictures are taken on the quays in the centre of the city (Dublin)
lots of very old interesting places around
including castles
some ruins (being looked after) and some are not ruins , being kept up very nicely
this photo may be too glossy looking for you >
but you can see how nice it is in ways ( see through to the reality of this picture:) ) and to have places like it open to the public
this is kilkenny castle

as very stormy and very wet weather here
( in the UK too they have flooding also.
I see over in the states have some also)

there is no flooding here where I am
or in the city
far as I remember there never was:confused:
but that would be only in the last hundred years or so

welcome to the forum Caimin:D
I walk/run through temple bar all the time as it's coming back from Grafton Street (where I take a lot of shots)
to the other side of the city where either our car is parked or I get my bus
(on the quays)
if I happen to be around there
I never go just to take shots. it just happens.
temple bar is well known for party goers and I'm not around when there are party goers .
but I like the cobbled streets... during the day
I must drop in on a boutique there as I took shots of a shoot they had done in Glendalough (for a newspaper)
I happened to come across it by accident a few months ago and I love the shots
(showing some of the unusual clothes they sell)
I think they would like to see them too
but have to get my head around doing a lot of things
( maybe another day when I get a chance)
anyway,
it's in temple bar
as regards Slane castle.
the scenery around Slane is unbelievable
were you at a concert or something in the castle?
otherwise it's owned privately by Lord Mountcharles
when I was a young girl we used pass through Slane on our way to county monaghan to visit relatives
(we still do sometimes)
then we always stopped in Slane, and I took pictures of the old ruin of a castle there a few times
but I think ( and feel sure) that you mean the huge castle on the hill.
owned by Lord Mountcharles
I absolutely love the scenery around Slane
especially when coming towards it from the Dublin direction
it's wonderful .
I wish I could show it to the whole world .
I mean the reality of it
maybe you'll get back.

Yes, I meant the Slane Castle owned by the English lord. I had a great tour of it once because I knew the then manager of the restaurant.
Would love to get back to Ireland and / or Dublin again soon...
