Hello Everyone,
I am new to digital photography and was wondering what book/books people had seen that they considered particularly good in the field. Any recommendations would be most appreciated. Thanks.

I have bought and read a number of books on the subject and also checked books out of the library and find them all informative. What I would suggest is to go to a good public library and check out two or three on the subject just as a way to get acquainted with digital photography. (A great way to save money.) Librarians usually choose books based on expert reviewers so if you find a book there it's probably pretty good. However most books available in libraries will tend to be a year or two out of date so another method would be to go to a Chapters or Barnes & Noble bookstore and spend a little time reading those books while you're there so you know what you're getting before you buy. I have found that the most helpful books are those with a LOT of illustrations that show you visually what is happening to help explain the text. Maybe somebody has a good bibliography of recent books - would be definitely valuable on this site.

The basic concepts for photography (exposure, apertures and shutter speeds, lighting and flash, composition), whether film or digital, are covered well in John Hedgecoe's books. These are also timeless subjects, so the only thing that will be lacking in a good book on the subject will be mention of the latest models, bells, and whistles. Specifically on digital, including post-processing, there's Rick Sammon's book (he's a Good Guy - he uses Canon :{)# ). There are also a number of books specifically on PhotoShop, PhotoShop Elements, Paint Shop Pro, and various othe photo-editing programs, which have been recommended by people around here from time to time (search for your program and "book").

Thanks for the input, I have Hedgecoe's book from the library (had an excellent book of his about 15 years ago) along with two others and am right now looking at Rick Sammon's book.

Dummies guide to digital photography is teh win
Thanks for reminding me, someone else strongly recommended it; but, strangely, it was not available through my library group which I thought had ALL the Dummy books.
