After selling my Sigma 70-300 I realised how much I used the "macro" setting for all the butterflies we get here in Texas. I jsut got the 500D as an economy option i.e. not a macro but the same cost as the 70-300 almost...

Monarch of some sort on the left by the looks of it, and a skipper on the right. Monarch looks a bit overexposed to me, the skipper is a bit too tightly cropped (if it is cropped that is), and the composition could be probably improved. Generally speaking, trying and get a bit lower down when taking the shots, rather than shooting from above.

Thanks for the advice. It was a challenge just getting close enough with a reasonable shutter speed. I am no where near stealthy enough for sneaking up with a tripod yet.

Do you use a step-up ring with the 500D, since the 500D isn't available for 67mm?
Also, wouldn't a set of extension tubes be the better solution?

IMO, the composition of #1 could be better but I like both of these shots :)
