It's a shot of Ailsa Craig, off the west coast of Scotland.

I am left wondering what the "hump" on the horizon is.

The color jumped out at me as the image opened, but I too find the distant mountain or hill oddly out of place somehow. Was that placed there in Photoshop or it it the natural landscape ? None the less, its a decent shot.

Cameron,
Nice shot of Ailsa Craig Nature Reserve, a long time since I've been on there!

As for the image it looks a little flat and lacking in colour I'd try adjusting the saturation a little to bring out more of the colour in the rocks, sea and sky.

Perhaps also because the tonal values are quite similar beween the Craig and the sky you might also want to try burning the Craig in just a touch.

I love the clouds, they are rather sureal and even more so with Ailsa Craig set against it.

Regards
David

The "hump" on the horizon is Ailsa Craig, an extinct volcanic island at the entrance to the Firth of Clyde.
Sometimes known as "Paddy's Milestone" ( sorry Marie )because it lies between Scotland and Ireland.

It is the natural landscape, ie not placed in Photoshop.

Thanks for the comments guys,

Hi David,
Thanks for the kind words and, as always, excellent advice.
I did as you suggested and there is a marked improvement in the image, especially burning the Craig in.

As you can tell this shot was taken with the sun quite high in the sky. I intend to return and take some dawn/dusk shots when the light is less harsh.

regards,
Cameron

I think it might also be useful to consider recomposing this picture such that the frame of nearby rocks were less in abundance, have more water showing and that the main subject, Ailsa Craig would be larger and more prominent in the photo. This could perhaps be done by using a stronger telephoto zoom from a position further behind the rocks. As it is, I think the main feature of the picture is ambiguous. Just my opinion. :)
