Try saving one of the images you like to your own computer, then opening it in whatever post processing software you use. Enlarge it and have a good close look at the jpeg sharpening "nasties", as well as things like colour saturation and composition. Now do the same with one of yours. How does it compare?
Never forget that the web is generally not "photo friendly", colour management does not exist in the main. I often have exactly the opposite problem to you. I spend a lot of time and effort getting a good looking print, only to find that the posted version is totally "overcooked" . Every media has it's own special requirements and you need to experiment to find out what works for you.

Edited to add: Did not see your image until after I replied. Looking at it reminds me of my F1 shots about 5 years ago and my MotoGP shots of 12 months. Looks like shooting technique rather than post processing, but its just another learning curve to climb. The image is sharpish, but not quite "there" if you understand what I mean. My shots improved massively when I started using "L" glass.

It looks like ass because it's compressed to sh!t. 67kb is way too small data-ly for a file that big dimensionally. My 800x533s are usually around 200kb.
Save it at 8/10 in Photoshop instead.

When you do your final output resizing for the web and saving, don't use as strong compression. Choose a higher quality level.

I take your last post as meaning you shoot jpegs. Then you should adjust the in camera settings and set it to high quality jpegs.

That means you're letting photobucket do your resizing. Don't. Photobucket sucks at it - they take a full size image then squish the crap out of it and make it all fuzzy looking like that. Resize images yourself on your computer and only upload files in the size you need to post...ie for here just upload a 1024 pixel (on the long side) file and link to it.

Yeah, photobucket is apparently resizing your uploads. Are you a pro user or just a freebie account? I think the free account goes up to 1600 at the pictures widest point. Check your settings on photobucket and make sure you're using the largest size available to you and resize everything in PS before you upload them with an 8+ quality level. I personally do all mine at the largest setting.
If you think you're going to use the photo here also, make one to conform to the forums while you're doing it.

Alternatively, if you don't want to resize your photos yourself, try other image hosting sites. Flickr seems to do a pretty good job.

Monkey nuts,
Resize it, then post it again so we can have another look. You might get more useful advice. I've already learnt from your post, I never knew that some host sites messed with users images. I won't be going there!

Up to a 5mb file, which = larger photos. And FTP upload option with 10 GB of space and unlimited bandwidth for linked images. Maybe another perk or two. Turn off selling prints there if you do spend the $25 to go Pro so they don't make money off your shots and you get nothing.

Looks much better Steve. Also, you may want to consider enabling Image Editing in your profile. That way, if you ask for help in the future, the guys on here will be able to take the image you post and be able to play around with it.
