The December edition of EOS Magazine has an article on hyperfocal distances (Page 32).
Do I understand this correctly?
eg:
If I use a 35mm lens with my D60 at an apature of f11 and manually focus to 5.5m
Everything from 5.5m to infinity and half that much in front of the 5.5m (which is everything) will be in focus.
Regards,
Neville.

I believe that everything from half the distance between the camera and 5.5m to infinity will be in focus (in other words 2.75 m to infinity). If I'm wrong I am sure others will correct me.

SoCal is right.
Great DoF / HyperfFocal Distance calculators: http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html
Another great site which makes custom charts you can print and carry.

Thank you all for your response.
However this poses another question.
What would be the benefit of using a smaller apature say f27 or f32 if I already have everything from 3m to infinity in focus with f11
Regards,
Neville.

Hmmm! Well, I once had an old 120 film bellows camera that went down to f/64. With that thing I could take 1 second time exposures in broad daylight and EVERYTHING was in focus! :)

Regards,
Neville. Not much, it might even lower image quality. When you stop down to a really tiny aperture (above f/22), the image might become less sharp because of diffraction (light "bends" around the aperture hole - don't ask me about the details.....).
