these brits put up quite a ruckus when opening for The Cure. a bit like Mogwai w/o the softLOUDsoft dynamics, instead most of the time up in the red part of the VU meter, and w/ some samples tossed in to the mix as well.

despite having no photo restrictions (ie, flash, full set, etc) the venue wouldn't allow any of that, so i got the standard 1st 3 / no flash. it was funny since as i got back to my seat near the soundboard w/ my gear, a guy connected to the band was back there and saw me w/ my gear. came up and told me i could go back up and keep shooting. i told him i got overruled.

4 and 5 are my favorites, narlus. 1, 3 and 7 seem OoF. Too bad about miscommunications between venue and band. I have seen the same thing happen a few times recently. Before curtain I make sure to talk to the security up front a bit, let them know about my restrictions (often different than other togs) and if they say something different, I ask politly to check with the band. It's worked more than it hasn't.

thanks Tony. it's a bit frustrating but it was my mistake for not having the tour manager's contact info. that said, i think i got decent shots in the 3 songs anyway.

as far as OOF goes, yeah, 1 and 3 i was definitely going for motion blur. for 7, i think it's an artifact of how zenfolio downsizes photos...i typically upload jpgs at full resolution after running the ManykSRS action (it's another way of archiving stuff), and they do some resizing algorithm for linking to different sized images. it works better than flickr, but still sometimes stuff like this happens.

here's another version of that same photo, that i resized and sharpened myself:

That last version looks better ;)

I like the motion in #1 and 2. Not sure about the blown parts though (mostly on #2)

#4, 5 and 6 are nice as well.
