What I usually do is set up the camera and focus normally then use the remote to take the shot. But the remote should work like the on camera shutter release, if you press it half way the camera should autofocus. I hope that this helps.

I will try your advice and see how that works for me thanks for your help.

No half way, but it should try and focus before it shoots.

Gail---Using my RC1 remote on a Digital Rebel. Tried it is auto modes and manual modes and in 2 second delay and no delay. In every case, there was no "half way" on the RC1....press it as gently as I could, it would CLICK....and the camera would focus and take the picture once it attained its focus. When forced into "cannot focus" situations, the camera would not shoot.

Why would your pictures be out of focus? Two thoughts come to mind.

1. Lens is on manual focus, so isn't autofocusing
2. Focus point not set to the default of focusing on the nearest object, or something along those lines.

Good luck.

In the instructions with my RC-1, it clearly states to "Focus on the subject and set the focus mode switch on the lens to "M" ".

This is something I didn't think I'd have to do either. I haven't really used the remote in anger as such - Yet. But I'll be very dissapointed if it does not give satisfactory results.

I got it working there was just something I wasn't doing right.
It's working good now Oh this is going to be fun. I love the new remote and my camera bag I order from B & H. I got the Tamrac #5606 Blue 6 System camera bag and it's wonderful. It's so roomy but I will have it full in no time. Just like my purse I think the larger you go the more stuff you can find to go in it ha.

Hi Gail, I am also running into the same issues as you with my remote RC1. could you tell me the settings you made to overcome the out of focus issue?
