I have been using a two 580 lighting system for several months. One 580 is 2 years old the other maybe a year & a half.
Now all of a sudden they do not "speak" to each other. At best it is every other shot.
I have gone over the programming. I have cleaned the hot shoe contacts. I have checked any possible CF setups that may have fallen out. I have switched the units from slave to master & back.
I can't even tell if it is my 5D pr one of both of the the 580's.
So I am asking if someone else has had the problem of suddenly their ETTL quits working.
Thought I would ask before I ship everything off to Canon wihich pretty well puts me out of business for awhile.
Back to film I guess.

Never heard of that. What happens if they're facing each other and you use the test button, with master/slave set up?

Does the LCD screen say "eTTL" or possibly just TTL in the upper left?
When you say they don't speak, do you have one on Master, and one on Slave?

Can you borrow or rent another 580EX, that works, and then test each one of your two against this borrowed one, to see which of your 580's is causing the problem.
