The southwestern coast of Nova Scotia is noted for it's large fishing industry.This is one of the last old wharves and as you can see it is no longer used and still has a few wooden lobster traps that are not accessible. I took the photo using my G3 with the 4x optical zoom, did some editing in Photoshop Elements and converted the photo to black and white as I thought it was suitable considering the image. Reigh

That is a GREAT shot? Can you please tell us what process you used to soften the edges? I really like that effect.

The technique is done using Photoshop. I use Elements 2. you have to define the area you wish to feather using the marguee tool and then select a feather radius. Also in the case of this photo I chose an offwhite feathering colour. If you have elements I would recommend the book" Create, the no nonsense guide to Photoshop elements 2 " Greg Simsic & Katy Bodenmiller. An excellent little book. Reigh

Reigh,
I like so much about this shot. eg;
1- The composition.
2- The B&W conversion.
3- The contrast.
4- The panorama format.
5- The background having a flat tonal range therefore focusing the eye on the subject.

But, like Big_B, I wish you hadn't put a vignette around the border, this shot deserves to stand alone.
One tiny detail, the horizon is out slightly.

I wish I had shot this.
