These were shot in the Watersport Arena at the London Boat Show. If I ever had any doubts about the low light AI Servo AF performance of the 1D Mark II today laid them to rest. Near total accuracy.
The first three of these were taken with the EF 100-400mm f/4.5 -5.6L (a lens I have criticised in the past for poor low light AF performance - I may have to revise that opinion) the final one was taken using the EF 70-200mm f/4.0L. All shots used the Canon 580EX flash. ISO 800 for the first two, ISO 1000 for the third and fourth.

 thanks, you lot are incorrigible :p
Try here http://www.canoepolo.org.uk/ for more info. They did seem a little short of "official photographers", just one chap wandering around with a film EOS and a Sigma prime so you guys could be "in" ;)
It was really dark in there. That coupled with the need for a fairly high shutter speed did cause some problems and I was wishing for my Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 but I'd left that one at home... I was impressed by the reach of the 580EX flash - the pool was maybe 25m wide by 70m long and there wasn't much of it out of range.

That's a top banana link Cadwell! Astounding!

First Chairman, now webmaster, I think we UK shooters will have a venue to meet up n shoot together in no time!
Curly/James, welcome to the forum!
How would shooters gain access close to the action? Is there accreditation process? Where are games normally played? Let me know if you events in North West covered :D

G'Day.
I have seen this sport in Newcastle, but it was outdoors, on the harbour.
Unfortunately I don't have a 1D or L lens (yet http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif ), but heres a picture I like.

Next major canoe polo event in UK is the Men's National Division 1, held at Coventry Pool on Saturday evening 29th January.
this is the first round of the national leagues where each team plays the other twice, current holders are Meridian and the final round is held with all teams attending over the weekend of 7/8 May 2005, outdoors in the docks at Liverpool,
At that weekend there is also the final round of the Ladies National Division 1, where many of the competitors will be current world champions (The British women won the title in Japan in July 2004)

Hi Everyone
Just my little bit of imput re canoe water polo events in the U.K.
Last March I was in Cardiff Bay. South Wales. doing some photography always with an eye for a different sort of image, i spotted this canoeist pushing the canoe along , thought it made a nice colourful image.
I then realised there were more canoes all coming back from outdoor water polo match in part of Cardiff Bay,ok I missed the actual event but possibly it might be a regular meeting place for water polo.
Cheers
Martin (Huckaback Photo)
