Was surprised to find out I could bring my SLR to the show, so I figured I'd try some concert photography. Had great seats, thought I'd post a couple for C&C.
Thanks for looking

Good face shots... a bit more guitar would have helped... Thanks for sharing.

#2 is nice. Agree about the "more guitar" comment. Framing a bit lower would have helped.
As it is, I'd crop closer.

Better?
Thanks for the advice.

I meant different ;)
If you turn on Image Editing OK (User CP > Edit Profile), Others can give it a shot.

Not too much room on the bottom, but I could just get rid of the red bit in the lower left.
Cropped top and right closer, and added a curves adjustment layer to darken the hand and bottom of the image a bit:

Thanks, great attention to detail. I'll have to go back through the other photos from the show with a keener eye.
Nice website also, René, nice images.

Good ones. If you know the guy is right handed, try to sit at the left of the stage to get more guitar.

Don't necessarily agree there: With the position these ar shot from, it's possible to get a tighter crop: If you stand on the other side, you get a big chunk of guitar neck sticking out....

i can see both views (re: positioning for shooting)...the point by photosguy i think is valid, but if it's a small stage, you run the risk of getting *the other* guitar player's neck into the image. if you are on the other side (to the performer's right, as if you are looking at him/her), chances are good that they will turn at some point and you can get a full guitar shot then.

The suggestion refers to what makes the band members happy, but life isn't perfect! ;)

Shooting from both sides, works for me AOK...

well obviously that's the best situation...doesn't always occur, though. last night's Boris show was jammed and crushing. i fled the front to the safety of the side after 3 songs; i was tired of getting my thighs pinned against the stage front edge.
btw, on the photos. definitely less zoom is yr friend here...a looser shot w/ less of Daryl's massive head would have worked better. i shot H&O last Dec (http://narlus.zenfolio.com/p1043400980/) if you want to compare.
