Thanks, It was at Meremere. It was the first time that I had taken any photos of jet sprinting. Not to sure if you are in the area, but it's happening again on the 20th of Feb. entry was $15.

20th of Feb, remind me when it gets closer and Ill try and make it down.
I had heard it was on, but was with held by other plans.

Those boats get upto speeds well above 100mph, and do it very quickly, getting such a clear shot is very impressive.

Meremere, yes there's an idea of places to take the camera, thanks you two!

Oh, and really good shot :)

Im pretty sure they are still doing the night war drags every friday evening.

The strip might be crap, but the stands and view of it are excellent, and don't require a big lens to get close to the action.

Theres also a dirt track, which gets some interesting cars racing on it, and of course the new jetboat track.

Very nice!

I was quitly hoping you would post some more :D

Have you thought of submitting any to speedsport? Or Go-Auto?
Someone I know on another forum submitted some shots he had taken of a Drift even with a lowly Sony Cybershot, and GO-Auto printed them.
But then its not he classiest automotive magazine, but they do seem to be always looking for a story thats a little differnt.

Great shots. Aren't these boats fun to shoot? I love it! I can hardly wait for the USSBA to start up. There's a couple of our guys down there racing I think...Either that or they're getting ready to head down.

I have been fortunate to even go for a ride (actually two) in these things and it's the most amazing thing I have ever done. They are freaking fast!

To go for a vurtual ride, hit my website at: http://www.rfmsports.com/USSBA/Photos/USSBAPhotos.html

The link to the Windows Media file is just below my Heartland USA cover photo. Crank up the sound and play it full screen. It's pretty accurate sans the wind in your hair and the 3-7g forces.

Nice shots.

Would be a fun event to watch, but unfortunately, I'm leaving Auckland on 20th Feb. Going to Brisbane/Surfers for 10days! :D

Virtual ride - well, now I understand boats with roll bars! Nice shots.

Looks like some great action to shoot. What sort of format does the racing take? I assume these guys go round the circuit one at a time as opposed too all at once.
Now that would be something to see

Reminds me of a torrential day way had at Silverstone last year.

the course is rather small, so it would be entertaining to try and see 2 boats going around the same time :)

What they do is number the corners and map out the course so the boat at least goes around 2 corners per race. However I did notice that a large number of boats got lost :)

When I was panning with the boats you could tell that a boats that got lost because it didn't follow the same movements that it should.

Nice pics!

It might be another couple of weeks until I finish sorting mine and select the best for my website. On the day I had my 10D turned on for over 5 hours and took 2080 shots. I never changed the 2 batteries in the battery grip! I sure was glad not to be shooting film (would have cost over $1000NZ for film and processing to shoot as I wanted) because I would not have been able to shoot freely!
