Challenge #128-WATERWAYS
************************************************
RESULTS!

Thanks to all who entered this one and revived the POTN challenge with so many variations on the theme that it made judging very hard. I had to PM a surprising number of people about the 800 pixel size rule but I'm happy to say that most of them appreciated the reminder and complied before the challenge ended. When choosing the winner and runners up - all very good - in the end I had to use the basic test I apply to my own images: "Is this one I think worth framing and hanging?", and of course "Does the main focus of the picture truly depict what I defined as a waterway?".

So bearing in mind this is only one guy's opinion....

FIRST: The Terminator: "Pemi River Falls". I liked the composition, the range of tones from dark shadow to white water, and the exposure was just right to catch the effect of rushing water without over-blurring or freezing it. Now it's over to you to set and judge the next challenge - good luck!

SECOND: Dan_bgblue: "Serenity". The soft tones of green reflected in the water, the composition and just the right exposure to indicate motion, made this a very close runner-up.

THIRD: raymondb: "Singapore River: Excellent image of a busy city waterway. Congratulations on getting the exposure just right for the city lights, the river and the boats in the foreground.

There were so many other entries that I won't attempt to critique them all but here are some that deserve an "honourable mention (in no particular order):

BBoi: "Aire & Calder Navigation"
abuseddog: "The Beavers Front Door"
bayoubooger: "Pearl River Swamp"
************************************************** **********************

For the purposes of this challenge a waterway means a river, canal, stream, creek or even an irrigation ditch - it doesn't have to be navigable. It does NOT mean an ocean, lake, pond, backyard pool or your bathtub!

You should have no shortage of subjects wherever you live so let's have lots of entries :D

To avoid any doubt abut the "no comments" rule, apart from the required title (photos should be named "untitled" if you can't think of one) please hold any explanations, comments or remarks about your own entry or any others until after the challenge is over. Your photo should speak for itself!
***************************************
To submit, click Post Reply and put your Photo Name and Camera Model either in the Subject line, or in the body text of your entry.

I liked March Melt in the NH Woods - I can relate to walking around in the woods in winter (and suddenly realizing that if I slipped on the ice I could have been swimming in the Mad River and no one would have any idea where I was). Gail captured the falling water just right - not too fast, not too slow.

Wow! Thanks for the third place!

Congratulation to"The Terminator" and Dan_bgblue for being First and Second.

Interesting challenge! Neat job!

Good to see so many entries.

Wow. Thank you for the honor that you have bestowed upon me!
I truly wasn't expecting to come in first. Congrats to the other winners and honorable mentions as well.
There are many fine photos in this contest.

...Since I'm sorta new here, am I supposed to start another challenge of my choosing right now?
Thanks,
Mark (The_Terminator)

I really enjoyed everyones entries. Singapore River is a pretty slick shot, I like the bright neon colors reflecting in the night water.

Thanks very much for including my picture in the group of three, especially since without your help, it would not have qualified due to a minor difference in size.

Great pictures posted in the thread, and I very much enjoyed viewing them.
