Ok, So I am going to the game tonight. I am sitting upstairs with relatively good seats for the tier. I have a 30D with a 70-200 f2.8 and a nifty fifty which I am just bringing for fun... How do you all thing I should set the camera tonight. I don't want to get there and guess. I want to be sure!!! If anyone can help in the next 15 minutes, shoot me a line! As always, I will post what I get if anything good...
Thanks!

Av... 2.8.... and the ISO as low as you can w/o getting blur... At that distance (at least the distance I assume 'upstairs' is from the diamond) you probably won't have to worry about motion blur too much...

Well I may be too late, but, if you're still looking, you have to be careful about what bag you bring that 70-200 in to the stadium, they don't like any hard bags, and be prepared for a grilling at the stadium. For this reason, I picked up a digital holster, it's soft and can be worn around the waist and won't block any seats or aisles.
Hope you make it in with the equipment.

Exactly what I'm thinking. Not easy getting into Yankee Stadium with a 70-200.

My last time into the Stadium (June 7th), I left my 70-200 on my XTi and kept my nifty fifty in my cargo shorts. I didn't bring a case.
The trouble you will experience is the decreasing light. I bumped up my ISO as the light dimmed, but it eventually got to a point where I simply stopped shooting and enjoyed the remainder of the game!
Go Yanks.

From various posts in the past, it looks like either bringing a small profile case of no case at all is the way to go correct?
I am planning on going around Sept. and I wonder if they will give me any problems with my Domke f-4 + 1DMKIII + 100-400L? (Maybe another smallish lens in the wife's purse?)
Did they hassle you through the gates?

Make sure to let us know if you were able to get your gear in, and how!
Good luck, and more importantly enjoy the game. Go Yanks!!!

Nice shots. I wish I had seen this before you went. I would have recommended a wide angle lens. Get the whole stadium from up there.

This is a timely post for me - I was aking the same question. I want to sneak a 100-400L in. This is the stadiums official response:
The following is a description of Yankee Stadium’s camera policy:
CAMERAS & VIDEO EQUIPMENT
Single-frame and flash photography are allowed. Video cameras and hand-held video equipment are prohibited. Neither lighting nor camera support pods are permitted to be used by Guests at the Stadium. Camera equipment may not obstruct the view or path of travel of others. Fans are not allowed to reproduce or re-broadcast any film of Yankee games for commercial purposes without the written permission of the New York Yankees and Major League Baseball. All forms of video and motion-picture cameras are strictly prohibited.
Digital cameras are allowed so long as you are only filming single frame shots, not video.

Enjoy the game!

I love how they say "support pods". I am worried about any bag I might bring - i have the velocity 9X I thought i might put on my wife to act like it's a purse (wishful thinking)

I took in a 100-400, 16-35 and MKIIN in a tamrac pro convetible with my monopod straped to the front.
They looked in and never said a word. You can use a monopod from a seat without obstructing anyone elses view. I think the big thing is no tripods.

So is it safe to say they will allow a Domke F-4 shoulder bag as well?
Pretty small footprint. Barely would fit my MKIII, 100-400 and a smaller lens.

I really think it depends on the person at the gate. They used to be VERY strict about letting bags into the Stadium after 9/11. I had tickets to the Stadium Club entrance and was not hassled at all when I went in. I personally wouldn't risk the bag. If you do and they won't let the bag in, there is a bar across the street that will let you check the bag (empty of course) and you can pick it up after the game.
