Hello,
I am new to digital photography and purchased my D20 about 8 weeks ago. I have been trying to learn about RAW files and understand they are the preferred medium to work in. I am trying to get the files into PS 7 and can not. Does PS7 support the D20’s Raw file extension?

I don't know if the newest Adobe Camera Raw plug-in (is it a plug-in? I don't have Photoshop, but I remember reading about it being necessary for getting 20D raw files into Photoshop CS) works with versions of Photoshop previous to CS, but you might consider going to the web-site and seeing if it will.
The newest DPP from Canon (version 1.5) might be a great step for you to include in your workflow if you can't use your version of Photoshop directly on the 20D raw files. If you haven't installed the software from the CD that came with your camera, you will need to before downloading and installing the latest updates from Canon's web-site.

Unfortunately, the ACR plug-in for Photoshop 7 does not support raw files from the 20D or any other recoent DSLR. And I don't think Adobe has any ACR updates for them either unless you are running Photoshop CS.

The reason to use the raw info instead of Jpeg info is you are carrying lost less info into a post production software. DPP and PS have strong tools that can be used to better prepare your image info for final output and that info (CRAW2) archived for any other output changes in the future.

The latest Camera Raw plug in has been updated to work specifically with 20D - easily downloaded from Adobe site takes a few minutes , works well.

...But only works with PS CS (PS8)
Currently there is no way to edit or convert 20D files in PS-7
The upagreade to PSCS from PS-7 was very affordable and well worth it by the way... I don't recall exactly, but I think I only spent about $100.00

$100.00 sounds very reasonable. Where did you get that from? I really appreciate everyones input. It seems like PSCS is the way to go.:)
