This was awesome, a bloody truck going round the track nearly as fast as some of the cars... Took corners well too! This is my first real attempt at a panning shot, would be good to see what you think. Was taken with a 70-300 lens without IS. I need to get an IS one!!!

Those radicals are miniature beasts! I'd love one. Nice shots.

Welcome to Motorsports. Nice shot. I really like the truck shot.

The truck is Stuart Oliver who also races in the BTCC (though not in the truck... although he might do better).

Truck one works for me. Radical one doesn't so much but welcome to Motorsports ;)

Cheers all, he certainly had some skill in that thing. We also had a spin in the Ginetta, i'll post a pic later tonight.

The truck shot is nice. Taken from the pitwall?

I don't reckon you do need IS for motorsport, it's helpful for still stuff but the IS actually hinders me for anything moving at pace... IMO. P.S I used to have a 75-300 IS USM. cheers

Hi, great pics especially the truck. I agree with AzzA, IS works against you with shots like that.

Very nice shots, maybe the speed was a little low for the first one, with a sligthly faster speed you might have got the truck more focused. Not a serious critique I know it is really hard to get a good result.

Looks like you gave the Radical a bit of a camber problem eh? haha, kidding. I just reread your original post, very good for first time speed shots.

Azza - Yes the shot was taken from the pit wall :)
Luigis - Thanks for the comment :) My aim with the truck shot was to create a panning shot with speed blur. I think I got what I wanted, although the one thing i would change is perhaps a smaller aperture, although the light conditions were rubbish so it was a trade-off.
Goincarcrazy - Yep! Tyre went wibble on the track, bits of shaft flying over the Ginetta lol. Redded the track for a good 20 mins.

It a good first posting. Most of the time the IS is off (I use a monopod) on my 100-400, except for the panning shots when it is hand held on mode 2.
