View Full Version : B+W CP Filter Lens Cap

I bought a B+W slim 77mm CP filter for my 10-22 back in June. As there are no front filter threads, they supplied it with a cheapo plastic lens cap that just pushes on and is held by friction only.

The problem is it keeps falling off, even if I sling the camera over my shoulder. I pretty much have to hold it with my hand while walking.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it stay on better, or if there are third party caps I can buy to replace this? Unfortunately I can't return the CP filter.

Thats why most do not end up going for the slim filters, which is what you have there. From everything I have researched, no there really isnt a way to make it stay on better and on top of that, for the 10-22 you didnt need to buy the slim version as the standard version supposedly does not vignette. I'd sell it and get the standard one from hvstar.com if I were you.

I have the same problem with the same filter for the same lens, didn't know about the vignetting part, now I'm thinking about selling it and going with the standard size one.

Yea the only lens that people were really concerned about vignetting (myself included) with the standard sized filter was the 16-35 II, but the newer version had the filter sized increased to 82mm specifically to not require a slim filter. I didnt believe it so I bought both versions, hated that stupid cap, and found that either vignetted and ended up returning the slim one and to this day i have and used the normal one.

I know, but I was in a pinch and needed a CP and that was all that was available. Now I'm stuck with it. :(

NO YOURE NOT! Dont ever feel that way! You can list that on ebay or in outr classifieds section and someone out there will buy it! Youre never stuck with anything you buy! If you dont like it, get rid of it! Its a learning process!

I almost made the same mistake earlier today. Then I saw the same problem about the caps and called B&H and changed my order immediately.

I'm sure there are people out there who'd still prefer the slim version though.

Don't forget Craigslist for finding local buyers.

Hoya Pro1 and B+W F-pro are both slim line CPLs with front threads....just read the feature decription or call the store to be sure.

EDIT: BTW....Hoya is 5mm thick. B+W is 6mm.

http://2filter.com/ has great domestic prices on these....good sales support also.

Sell it and buy a B+W F-Pro. And no, the F-Pro is not a "slim line CPL"...

This is true....I use my 10-22 with the standard B+W CPL F-Pro mount and there is no vignetting at 10mm.

If any of you insist on a slim 77mm circular polarizer, I suggest going for the Nikon 77mm circular polarizer II. It's got front threads and will work with standard lens caps, costs $139.95 at B&H.

Some part of me deep down inside would die if I put a Nikon filter on a Canon lens...

Is the B+W 77mm F-Pro Multicoated Circular Polarizer MrC (http://www.2filter.com/prices/B+W_filters/B+W_Circular_Polarizers.html) the filter you're referring to?

Me too and I got the B+W 77mm kaesemann MRC SLIM, so very expensive. I'll check how much I paid and think about selling it on.

Nifty idea, and just may work if I don't have any luck selling it. :)
