our first wedding job, we didn't have any experience, but followed many others advice here.
gallery here (only 17) short version

things learnt:
Don't think you can get by with only one shooter, i really thought i could get by, but i had to have my little bro with me, having the 2nd shoot made all the difference.
he had my back when i was changing things out, getting the next set up shot, etc, must have 2 shooters !!
1. fast action (indoors, to outdoors, ever changing lighting conditions, have your equipment ready..
2. my 40D in raw takes lots of space, have more memory, 8gbs is not enough for 5 hour wedding.
3. control family more - line them up poses, did them indoors in a weird room, but that is where the family wanted.
4. control the guest - have them out of the way- I couldn’t get a clean shot of the couple walking out of the church. Guests were blocking the view. I had to scurry over fast. And lost some of the shots I wanted.
5. have at least 2 cameras for both shooters, we only had 3 total, xti, 30d , and 40d. maybe we need to rent one more body.
(lens we had on hand. 2 – 50mm 1.4, 2 -70 -200 2.8 L is, 17 – 40 4.0L, tamron 28 – 75 2.8. I don’t like my tamron, getting rid of it today infact. Getting the 24 -70 2.8L.)
6. have a list of shots we want ready to do, not think up of shots during the moment.
7. have the bride and groom provide names of family members first, so I don’t have to learn their names during the day.
Just a few things I would do different.
All in all things were good for our first wedding, I was the first shooter because the bride works with me and I got the job, but my brother could have been the first shooter too, so basically we had 2 first shooters..
Our results were much better than I had ever imagined. The Beauty of the bride and flower girl helps out greatly, and venue had beautiful indoor décor, all plus’s for us.
my brothers thread is here.
