I suspected the 5D & MKIII would see a reduction...... I strongly believe there will be a 5DMKII and an MKIIIn arriving in August.... Dropping existing inventory ahead of the releases would seem prudent.
The 1DsMKIII drop is a bit surprising.
Perhaps much to do about nothing.

GBRandy...hope you are right about the 5DMKII...and not so right about the MKIII...:)

My thoughts exactly :D
If I were Canon I'd come out with an N of the III, it would go a long way to clear up the lingering cloud over the 1D3 (justfied or not )

I dont think the 1ds has had that much of a proce drop ever, so I highly doubt a 1dsmkIII will drop that low. Be nice if it did, but history seems to repeat itself with Canon on price points.....

Ill never understand why so many people think a III-N is something that MUST happen.

I just can't believe how drastic the M3's price has dropped in just one year. Wow.

Not MUST...just should. Try and understand ;)
The LCD needs an update seeing as it was waxed by the D3 & D300. The AF system needs an overhaul and they could hide the changes in the new model. A couple of software tweaks to match up better with the D3 & viola... an MK3n
In reality, that is about what the change was from the MKII to the MKIIn. Stay tuned, I suspect and MKIIIn exists before January 1st.

As an ex-product manager I am fairly sure that an 5DMKII (or something like it) will be released pretty soon. They have to have it in the works by now and the D700 release almost begs for it to hit the market.
As for the MKIIIn, I think besides the technical updates it needs as a result of the D3 release, the reputation of the camera is a mess. Pasting a little "n" after the "III" would go along way in many peoples minds to put the camera up where it belongs instead of mired in doubt about it's performance.
My two cents.... :p How long until the mods move this thread to Rumors I wonder?

Why does the AF need an overhaul?

[Post icon] Price reduction on 1Ds3 & 1D3
Canon Thailand just made a price reduction on the 1Ds3, 1D3 & 5D.
After the new price today the FotoFile shops (Thailands biggest) sell the bodies for this price in US Dollars http://www.fotofile.net/
1Ds3__$ 6168
1D3__$ 3392
5D__$ 1662
5D $1662 + december rebates :)
wonder if ~US$1500 will be the 5D's new price range, with a potentially US$2300 5DmII.
intro around $2499, aggressively drop to 2200 or so with rebates.
unless canon decides to be arrogant with their pricing structure. not that that's happened before :)

I agree.
Currently the 1D MKIII has the fastest/best AF system of any DSLR, especially in low light (every online head to head review/comparison vs other cameras now proves this showing highest % keepers in servo mode, and highest number of in focus shots achieved vs any other DSLR)
The LCD is the best of any camera before the new nikons, which means it was already great, and just having to keep up with the Jones is a poor excuse.
ANd despite the fact the 1D MKIII had the best LCD on any DSLR up until one year ago, people now say it's rubbish... many of these people have never even used a 1D MKIII, they are going by marketing hype and numbers. I've seen the new nikon LCD's and while nice, they are so overhyped it's beyond belief.
Perhaps Nikon should introduce a D3n that can focus as well in low light as their old cameras. (http://photo.net/nikon-camera-forum/00OHmR)
Anybody who thinks an "N must happen" are only gadget whores, and not true photographers (especially when most of those who complain don't even own a 1D3).
I owned a 1DMK2 and 1DMK2N for years, and the 1D MKIII beats them both... and from my experience, it still beats the D3 in many categories too, for less money .
The 1D MK3 is currently the fastest/best pure sports DSLR available, period. Yet some people will never be satisfied.

Here is part of an article I posted yesterday in another thread that got quickly buried about Getty's Olympic shooters...
...Mainardis says that Getty Images shooters will carry about four Canon EOS-1D Mark III camera bodies and some an EOS-1Ds Mark III for capturing portrait shots. Most of the lenses in the Canon L-series will be used, from the EF 14mm f.2.8L II USM through to the EF 600mm f/4L IS USM lens...

what is really amazing is that you can't seem to stop bringing up the D3 for some reason. nobody mentioned Nikon in this thread and yet you always feel the need to start with this whole mkIII vs. D3 crap. the bottom line is that the mkIII LCD is crap. the camera did have AF issues (mine works perfectly now mind you).
for the record, i don't think that Canon will bring out a mkIIIn...

Oct-08 - 5D2
Oct-08 - 1D3N
The N doesn't need to come out. But after 18-months odds are the 1D3 will probably get a 'facelift'. Probably just a new LCD and nothing more.
5D & 1D2N were first to get the 2.5" LCD, and 30D followed.
Canon fans will poke fun at a disappointing 50D release (20D->30D).
5D2 will be at the very least a FF 50D. Hopefully more. Hopefully a Digital 1V :).
I think it'd be pretty sweet and wouldn't hurt too many peoples feelings if Canon started using 922,000 pixel LCD in future cameras including the 1D3N.
For those who get upset everytime a new camera is released or for those who just have to have the newest, it's easy. Sell and upgrade. I think regardless of model, xxD or xD, Canons depreciate like $400-$600 a year. Like a rental fee, or a cell phone bill.

High-end SLR prices are on the move today - the posted price for a Nikon D3 went from $4,999 to $4,699 at Adorama. Sensing Canon price moves, getting ready for the D3x - who knows but with inflation on track for staggering 9 percent this year in the US (usually it's between 2 to 3 percent), it's nice to see some falling prices (which reductions are larger than they even appear given the inflation).
