4th of July fun... So I thought I would try some Infrared, since water does not reflect IR light well, I was hoping for some dark water effect...
I think I got it...
CC?

That water looks kinda scary. I have a question. I've always been interested in IR photography but how do you convert a camera for it? Is it a lens coating thing or is there a filter in the camera?

You got the effect you were looking for, i just think such a happy family scene would work better in colour.

Hmmm... color... let me see what comes of that conversion...
Thanks for the compliments...
There are several ways to do IR photography digitally now. In this case I sent a new Rebel XT to Lifepixel and they removed the IR blocking filter, and recalibrated the camera to IR. They did a great job and it works well.

IB;
You can do two conversions through life pixel one will allow for both. I prefered to make the camera IR only as the results seemed to be a little better from their sample photos.
I have another camera, so I wanted to commit to doing IR to the best of the cameras ability. You can do it with an external filter as well, but you cannot hand hold the camera at that point.
Check Luminous Landscape for a bunch of IR info as well.

It is better to send it away and have its mirror and sensor modded for IR, if you have a spare DSLR. I picked up a spare EOS Rebel for about 110 on ebay and I am debating the conversion. Major plus to it is the fact that it works like normal only it it is permanently IR only.

I like the contrast range, the starkness, the surrealism...
I kind of regard it as the next step to becoming more than a guy who takes nice photos...
Its a step away from reality, creating photos where a regular camera would just over look it...
