Hands down. No discussion: 1dMKII.
#2 would be the 1D.
#3 would be the 20D.

No doubt about it.
If you don't feel like springing for the Mk II, a good used 1D will cost just a bit more than a new 20D, and give you somewhat similar performance to the Mk II in an almost bullet-proof package. If you can live with 4 megapixels, it's a great tool.

We will need further testing. I've yet to use a MKII so i cant prove if it is indeed better then my 1D, who would like to help me figure this out?

It all, of course, depends on what you mean by "best"...

Is it only the FPS that makes you say 1d over 20d or are the AF and metering also that much superior?
I know the durability is a major factor but I'm talking technical?

the AF and metering also that much superior?Superior and them some.
Also has a bigger and better sensor, better DR etc etc............
I can't really think of anything that a 20D or any camera other then the 1Ds series can do to even match then the 1D II.
One of those things that you won't understand till you hold one.

There is something about having a "big" camera in your hands. The weight fits in your hands just right. Probably the 1D with a "big" lens.....400 minimum

Timmy, true, the 1D cameras look badass.
I was once told it can save your life. Out doing wildlife photography when suddenly a hungry carnivore notices you? Take your shot, take the card out, and chuck the camera at it, considering the size and weight of these things, it will give that poor thing more then a concussion.

I switched to the MKII recently and the rate of keepers is amazing. The tracking is great. I have lots of friends who are fellow photojournalists they still use the original 1D the biggest complains I hear from them is noise over 640 ISO, battery life and the inability to zoom into the display. You can't tell if you have a sharp shot until you load it in to the computer. Although some of them would like the abillity to crop some more like the MKI,I the sensor size on the 1D is big enough to crop a picture and still have it run on a full page.
