I am tired of banding/line issues with my IP5000. It has gotten to the point that I can not get a good print out of it.
So should I tempt fate with another Canon printer (Pro 9000) or would I be better off switching to Epson? I know a lot of respect people swear by Epson, but they shoot nikon too:rolleyes: (Kelby)

Give me some opinions!!

I have a S9000 Cannon and I would not buy another , the constant head clogging and banding turned it into an expensive office text printer .

I have an s9000 and have replaced the print head three times in the last five years. The current head is still ok after three years and the only thing I did different was to switch to cannon ink tanks rather than the refilled ones. Right now i'm getting the message the the used ink tank is almost full. Does anyone know how to reset the message as i'm getting tired of hitting the reume printing button after each page!

love my pro9000. No banding issues at all. Plus it seems to conserve more ink than my epson.

As I just posted in two other threads; a couple of months ago I picked up a Canon PIXMA Pro9000 to replace an aging POS Epson Photo Stylus 1280 and have been loving every minute!

I just recently ran a batch of 8x10s for framing and they're gorgeous.

Here is a nice link testing the Pro9000 and the Stylus 1400!!!

Printer Test: Canon PIXMA Pro9000 and Epson Stylus Photo 1400

Great photos deserve to be admired -- and not as tiny snapshots. They should be at least 13x19 inches. Pigment printers can be pricey, so check out two dye-based alternatives from Canon and Epson.

Its refering to the waste tank, which is basically a container and the sponge in the botum of the printer. Whenever you do a cleaning or print something borderless, the waste tank absorbs all the wasted ink. You can take the sponge out and replace it, but the only way I am aware of to reset the counter is to take it to an ASF. You might be able to reset the counter in service mode, or the chip needs to be replaced. If you call canon, they will just tell you it needs to be serviced.

there are 'software hacks' available for some of the epson printers - maybe also for the canon?

They're a b!tch to find, but you can find docs on entering service mode; mostly to enable the CD-ROM printing tray feature, along with purchasing "Meda Tray E."

Some drivers such as those from Ghostscript also have more options than your standard Windows/Mac OS X drivers - though Mac OS X Leopard at least offers the Ghostscript driver option out-of-the-box (with an update available from the Canon Website for Leopard/10.5 even).
