... rather a silly question.

Is there any chance of somebody hacking XSi firmware to add spot metering to XTi ? Or is it a hardware rather than algorhytm feature ? (I understand that XSi firmware can't be used on XTi in its entirety due to processor and resolution differences).

I've never heard that this can be done via firmware alone. Would be interesting to see.
