Wish I had the money for a 1DsMKII, but would have to sell something :)

Anyways, with as much as I've been shooting of the hockey games, I'm thinking about upgrading from my 300D to a 20D.

Whats your take on this? Is it a good camera to shoot sports with? FPS high enough? AI Servo?

Thanks for your imput.

I think you couldn't have picked a better camera to upgrade to (aside from the 1-series) ;). FPS should definitely not be a problem. I havent had the privilege of using a 20D but have heard awesome things about it.

Was dreaming about the 1Ds MkII, but would have had to sell my Merc to be able to afford it. My wife wouldn't let me, even after a week of washing the dishes and doing the ironing :~(.

Got the 20D instead and I'm more than impressed. Have no problems at all with AI Servo tracking of our dog at full speed . As long as your hockey players don't run faster than a greyhound, the 20D should suit you fine.

You may want to consider shooting in fine jpeg format, rather than raw, to get more shots in a sequence before the buffer is full . Make sure you have the white balance correct though.

Also suggest you use the Lexar 80x WA compact flash cards, which will increase number of shots that can be taken before the buffer is full due to the faster write time .

Thanks for the information, I'll check that card out.

Thanks for the information, I'll check that card out.Or Sandisk Ultra II, Extreme or Extreme III will give you the same performance as the Lexar 80x, with the RAW being fastest with the Extreme III.

I was in the same boat though. Was about to buy a digital rebel when I heard the 20D was coming out, and I was primarily going to be shooting sports so I just waited a month or so. The 1D Mk II was my first choice, but I would have had no money left for lenses. In general, I think the 1D Mk II is the best sports camera given unlimited money, even better than the 1Ds Mk II which is a little slower. Anyway, I ended up with a 20D, 18-55 EF-S, 50 f/1.8, 28-75mm Xr Di and 300mm f/4L and 580EX flash and several 1Gb cards for a little less than I would have spent on just the 1D Mk II body, so I'm pretty happy, for now.......
