Need a little help on this since I am typically a RAW shooter and do my sharpening routine and tone adjustments in post. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I am covering for the team photog for the Cleveland City Stars (soccer) this weekend and they want jpeg files during the game for real time game reports and a post game press release. They also want jpeg only as they will do no processing whatsoever to the images prior to use.

My understanding has always been that the MKII has a very strong AA filter and I'm concerned that the images they get aren't going to look as good as they can with no processing at all. Can anyone recommend decent sharpness and contrast settings for in camera jpegs for the MKII? FWIW, I think I recall using sharpness at +3 and contrast at +1 when I had to do this once before but I really can't recall what I did.

Thanks in advance.

www.siphoto.com is a good place to start.

Personally I only used SI settings for AF and some other Custom Functions. I don;t normally shoot JPEGs but mine's set as follows:

JPEG Quality 6
Parameter Set 1 Set up as Tone Curve Standard, Sharpness 2, Contrast 0
Color Matrix 1Standard

I did that to match as close as possible to the 10D settings I could configure to give me similar results. Play with them to give the look you want. The settings I have provide pleasing but not overly contrasty or razor sharp images SOOC. In other words, they're a solid base for a little extra processing at the end if desired but perfectly usable as-is.

soooo, if I wanted the sharpest images SOOC, bump the sharpness AND contrast a fuzz??

Yeah basically. I think contrast and sharpness are fine with those settings but of course that's why I have 'em set that way. :)

I'd say bump the sharpness up to +3 or so and have Tone Color at 0 or -1. It's a little redder but at +1 it's a little yellowish. Try a few settings before hand and see which is best.

Sharpness to 3 and contrast to 1.
Then there is always the option of taking a laptop and post editing on the spot.

I offered that but they needed images on the fly so no go on that avenue unfortunately. I am going to shoot RAW + L so at least I can edit for stock.

Played with some settings and I think Im settling on +4 sharp and +2 contrast. It's quite overcast an d looks to be the same around gametime so the added contrast ought to help a bit. I'll post up a few in a day or so for comparison.
