My uncle is leaning towards buying a Ni*on D70. I'm trying to steer him away from the dark side. I am currently trying to email him several pictures of large numbers of white lenses lined up at sporting events or elsewhere. I found some from the olympics but am looking for that famous Andre Agassi picture with all the white lenses pointed at Agassi. Does anyone have a copy of that you could post? Do you have any other examples of groups of Pros with white lenses everywhere? Please help me convert my soon-to-be heathen uncle!!!

Tell your uncle there was some guys who shoot at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway who went with Nikon when they made switch to digital because of price. After the race they were mad because the images they had were not acceptable and had to have so much post processing done to each and every photo.
So if he doesn't mind a lot of post processing on the computer afterwards, get a Nikon. Afterall it is his time he is wasting.

Not that your uncle would be the type that would use a buy and sell forum but you might have him take a spin thru FM's buy and sell section and check how much Nikon equipment is available compared to Canon. No contest.

Direct your uncle to www.nikonians.org so he can read the complaints of Nikon users himself.

I appreciate the help guys. I read some of the stuff on Nikonians. Yup, they've got some problems. But - I'm still looking for the shot of Andre Agassi with all the beautiful white lenses pointed at him......does anyone have it?

I just happened to have the latest issue (February) of Outdoor Photographer. It has a similar phot of an American runner wrapped in an American flag standing in front of a row of cameras, the vast majority of which have big white lenses on them. When you read the text of that ad, you'll learn that Canon is the choice of 90% of sports photographers.

If Nikon was truly better, it's reasonableto conclude that the people who earn their living with cameras would buy them.

Tom, do you ever sleep? Our late-night leader! Thanks Tom, I'm looking it up now.

I actually discussed that question in an earlier thread, and CDS has seen fit to incorporate a portion of that in his sig:

"Moderators never sleep.
RFM lives near a volcano.... not condusive to good rest.
ScottBerger lives in New York ('nuff said)
CDS doesn't even own a bed"

Belmondo has probably been staying awake at night waiting for the mudslide to come down his neighborhood. Not that he is concerned about the homes so much. He just wants to get the shot.

I'm in the same position as your uncle, except I've decided on the 20D instead of the D70. Why? Well, I carefully read the full reviews and studied the test results of both cameras posted on dpreview.com. Then I considered the range (and price) of image stabilized lenses available for both cameras. The Canon won, hands down. I used to own Ni*on, so I actually started off leaning in that direction. The facts changed my mind.

Same here. My last two digital cameras were Nikon point and shoots, so I was leaning Nikon when I decided to go dSLR. After doing a little research and seeing how much faster Canon was moving than Nikon in terms of new bodies, I decided to go with Canon. Most of the investment will typically be in lenses, flashes, etc, so I didn't want to end up buying a whole set of Nikon gear and then feel like I was stuck with their somewhat modest selection of bodies.
