I have had my D60 for a few weeks now and noticed a problem when downloading images to Mac G4/OS 9.1.

After downloading, every file is marked with the creation date of Dec 1, 1979. This happens on all files, JPEG or RAW, downloaded from the camera with Canon software or just copied from CF card in a card reader. The camera has correct date and time set, and reviewing the images on the card in camera shows all information correct. So something is happening in the transfer process to change the dates.

Has anybody else heard of this problem? I called Canon about this and they were totally unhelpful ! The guy's only advice was "We've never heard of this, you'll have to send the camera back."

ha...

leave to it to a major company to equip their customer service people with the MOST unpleasant response "...you'll have to send your camera back..." don't tell me that THAT isn't designed to get you to hang up before they can trace your call :)

all joking aside...

i am running OS X on a G4/800 powerbook and get pretty much the same problem...although it doesn't default to the same date all the time, it usually has some obtuse date in the past. the funny thing is...if you check the creation dates in the D-60, you'll see that they are actually correct! now why this gets twisted in the *usually* trouble free mac os, i don't know...

i guess i'm no real help here...but want you to know you're not alone with this problem...

This seems to be a problem unique to Canon. I have an S100. It's uses a proprietary 'Creation date' function. Graphic files, downloaded to the G4 (OS 9.1), via Canon's ImageBrowser software, show the moment of downloading as the Creation date. The correct date is visible from within ImageBrowser but not in the Finder.
There is no way to store those files in chronological order. Canon sez it is a 'Mac OS issue’ - not their problem. The Olympus and Sony cameras I’ve tested do not suffer this fault. Canon management has stuck their collective heads in the sand.

The malfunction is caused by Canon's proprietary file format. I can see from the lack of response to the two earlier entries in this forum and the many eMails to & from Canon that there will be no fix and have resolved to replace my Canon with another brand.

This is a known problem with OSX. See www.macfixit.com for a discussion.
