 I'm pretty new to photography and I was wondering. If I use a EF50mm 1.8 MKII lens with possibly a tele-converter would it suffer (I’m thinking about reaching out with it) or is this a moot point and can't be done.

The Canon and Sigma TCs will not physically fit on that lens.
Some other third party TCs might... but I'm not at all sure what the results would be like. I'm guessing "not great".

I used a kenko TC on my 20D ..
1.4x.
didn't even loose a stop.
But I don't know about other brands.
I didn't take any photo's that I saved.

Actually you lost 1 stop,.. your camera just didn't tell you because the T-con you have does not have the electronics to communicate this info to the camera. The camera however compensates for the losss of light automatically via it's TTL metering.
I was unclear though.. could you actually use the Kenko with a 50mm f/1.8?
Did it cause heavy vingnette?
Thanks :)
