Nice work, I always enjoy seeing JS live. Maybe someday I'll be good enough to actually have a chance to shoot him.

Very nice series. #1,3 and 7 for me.

Nice. I prefer the ones taken with the 16-35. I am not sure if that is necessarily because of the lens itself. I think it may because if the lighting you were getting when you were in that spot. It looks like you moved to take the other ones. Either way. Well done. I found myself just enjoying them, and not looking at them as photographs, which I think is a great thing.

Thanks everyone - and here's one that I had a did a bit of different post processing on. I kinda like it but I'm wondering what others think.

Great shots. I love seeing Satch still shredding away. I only have a little nitpick with the B&W: Joe's head gets a little lost in the background. Other than that, you did a great job. I'm sure the show was great as well.

Great series. 8 is my fav I think.
I definitely like the b/w shot too, especially the detail it shows on his hands. The sunglasses look a little too light however, so you may want to consider giving those a little burn to black them out.

I kinda like the B&W, but agree the sunglasses look a bit 'gray' instead of black. I would lighten the face a bit however...
Also, I'd use less blue channel probably.
Edit: All images are AdobeRGB by the way... Not good :p
Did a Q&D edit on the color version you posted: Channel mixer R=54%, G=-14%; B= 60%, a bit of curves on the face, converted to sRGB:
Sorry about the artefacts ;)

good captures, and from the others ive seen joe likes to mug for the camera. i also prefer the first set, as the lighting is a bit more interesting. canon needs to do some work w/ how it handles saturated blues. rené did a nice b/w conversion.

Awesome series. Even if you had forgotten to take photos, I am sure your ears were given a great gift, by listening to some of that genius.
The photos are really good (#2 and #5 are magazine worth it). I must say I am not as keen on the Black and White versions. Though I am sure with the proper photo and process, some might look ok.
Surprised that he is an Ibanez kinda guy. I did not know that. At any rate, whatever he plays is fantastic.
Thanks for sharing the pics, and lucky you !!!...

He has played Ibanez almost from the start of his career. Ibanez is actually the most underrated guitar made. And only because they dont price them sky high. The quality of build on them is amazing. They are well worth checking out. I have had 4 Ibanez Basses. LOVED every one. And believe it or not... am considering trading in my PRS guitar on a Ibanez.

Outstanding shots of an outstanding guitarist. I never thought he took his beanie off though?

Thanks all.
@ Rene - nice job on the PS edit. I'll take note of my colour settings; I thought I worked in sRGB. I wonder if flickr changes anything as the pics posted here are hosted on flickr.
@ Metealphotographer - I can't recall seeing any live photos of Satch when he had his beanie on.
@ PhotoJourno - Satch has been the Ibanez pin up boy for a long long time (maybe 20+ years)

I love Satchmo and the shots are awesome. I saw the G3 tour years ago and Joe stole the show ( it was also Vai, Eric Johnson).
He has most definitely been endorsed by Ibanez 20+ years. I remember "Not of this Earth", listenening to that back in '90 or so.
