Everyone loves this little guy.. but how come its so inexpensive if its such a decent performer? Aesthetics and size? I just bought an sd870is and might return it TONIGHT and get an sx100is.

Only downside I can see is the lack of widescreen on the sx100? Things only $230! and with FULL manual (aperture and shutter priority modes) I think that cant be beat... but whys this guy so inexpensive and the sd870 was $300!? Gotta be because the 870 is "pretty". I dont know. Anyways, thanks. Very helpful and informative forums.

Maybe the cost of Li-ion battery + charger?

as I said in the other thread, it is probably due to the size, and the rechargeable lithium battery, and I am not sure but if the870 has a larger lcd screen that will raise the price. I would buy the sx100 over the sd870 in a heartbeat, unless size was a major factor...

I had a sx100is when it came out it was 299.99. I really enjoyed the camera.
I do not know anything about the other camera that you mentioned but the sx100is is great.

Yeah it was expensive then just dropped. I think it's partially replacing the A720. May or may not. Have to wait and see since the A720 has been discontinued.

I think it's a great camera though and really has a lot of potential.

A720 hasn't been discontinued, it is still very much alive and kicking :D. In fact for majority of the people, it is better value for money than SX100IS, which only offers more zoom

Yeah it has actually. Considering they are sold out everywhere and not getting anymore in...that's what happens when they are discontinued. Just 'cause there still numbers left means nothing but it is a great camera.

Pocket the difference to buy an extra large memory card (or extra memory cards for the holiday trip shots) , and extra rechargeable batteries. The SX100IS runs on 2x AA and the IS does suck up a lot of juice.
