New to this, had the camera about a week. Photos taken in the default large Jpeg mode show only 180dpi? Am I doing something wrong? The pics look fine, and are quite a bit larger than my 17" monitor, but shows only 180dpi? What am I missing?
Thanks....

Nothing. It's just the default setting of whatever you are veiwing the images with. The image is still 3072 x 2048 pixels.

dpi is only meaningful when you're talking about output devices (printers). Your camera produces pixels... the dpi is an arbitrary property tagged to the image by software.

Ok, so has anyone printed out big images? Can you actually get a 20 x 30 print that looks good out of the camera? When I up the dpi, the size drops, I understand... Guess I am just wondering how it will all shake out in the end. I would like to print off high res photos of at least 11x14...

If you do the math, you will see that you can print up to almost 8x10 and still maintain the excellent quality of 300 dpi. And 300 dpi is excellent up close in your face.
You can drop down the numbers somewhat and still get very good results. As you get to larger and larger print sizes, the 300 will drop to 200 and maybe to 100. For a really large print, maybe 100 is as good as you get. But people view a really large print from much father away, not up close.
