I've had a number if Canon PowerShot Elphs and loved them. My current S200 is still everything I need from a point and shoot pocket camera but its movie mode is useless and limited to 30 second clips.

I'm looking for a replacement P&S camera with a good movie mode to mount in cars for amateur slalom/rally events as well as provide a decent pocket camera upgrade. Are any Canon's better or worse at movie modes? I would need unlimited (except by the card of course) movie lengths and decent sound capture. Preferably one of the more compact cameras along the SD line rather than an A or G series.

^^ I second that. As long as you do not need to shoot for more that 1 hour. the movie mode is limited to 4GB or 60 minutes.

I believe CHDK gives you the ability to have unlimited video, well obviously it is capped at the size of your card...
but I do agree with those being the best models to shoot video.

this is a short 10 second Canon S5 full resolution movie clip -

the video files from the S5 are large, 1 minute > 120 MB !

I agree, S5IS is best for movies. If I am not wrong, it is the only powershot that has optical zoom which works while shooting videos.

I use an S5 for all my movies and everyday pics. I love it. The movie quality is good and the ease of video and still in one package is hard to beat.

Give them your details and you will be receiving spam for the next 500-1000 years. Forget it! http://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/icons/icon8.gif

no, you don't have to give any details. it is a "file host" service where you can download a file. Look at the "Basic FileFactory" you download the file for free without giving anything such as email, name, etc. !
absolutely true !

The S5-IS by far. Video output, the difference isn't huge compared to the other series', but versatility is key. The S5 has a dedicated movie button, stereo sound recording and arguably more importantly, the ability to optically zoom and re-AF while recording. My old A710IS, G9 and IXUS/SD1100IS all can't do this, but my old S3 could. The ability to re-AF is invaluable, IMO.
