Help!

Just received my new D60 and having lots of fun with it. Need help and directions for what to use as cable release, and where can I find good price on the net?

Thank you.

Paul

Hi,

I use the Canon TC-80N3 with the D60 which is a timer remote controller.

Has much more than a shutter release, but costs a bit more.

Got mine from http://www.parkcameras.com/

It is great if you need the programmable functions. I believe it is around £90.00.

If you just want the plain jane version, the RS-80N3, it is available at B&H for $49.95.

To Davidwalton and Harlod: Thank you for your help, I have done some research and now I can't decide which one to buy!!! But I will figure it out. Thanks again.

With regards to the TC-80N3 and a D30/D60, my experience, is that it does not work. Specifically, any long exposures are two seconds short of the requested exposure time. It seems the TC-80N3 is off and running two seconds prior to the shutter releasing on the camera. Both TC-80N3 and camera end the exposure at the same time but the camera started two seconds late.

Also, if just requesting a number of frames, the actual number exposed is about half of the requested number. For example, to get 3 frames exposed, I must set the # of frames to 6. Setting it to 5 or 4 produces 2 exposed frames. The only way I can get the # of frames to be correct is by setting an interval of at least 2 seconds between frames. It seems the D30/D60 cannot keep up with the requests from the remote at one second intervals.

I have tried two different TC-80N3s with two different D30s and a D60. Same result each time. Using either of the TC-80N3s with an EOS 3 produces results as expected.

Anyone else noticed these problems?

I routinely use the RS-80N3 with the camera.

Nearly all of my shots are done on a tripod, so it is rare for me to depress the shutter button.

I've never had any problem with the RS-80N3 on the D30 or the D60.

Unless you need the timer feature, I'd go with the RS-80N3. If you need a time exposure and you can time it yourself, the camera release has a switch to hold the button down in bulb setting. The camera's display will count the seconds for the exposure.

Cheers,

Mitch

i just tried this doing exactly what you described, and the TC-80N3 and my D60 worked flawlessy. i have all custom funtions set to default though.
kinda wierd that some D60/30's work in ways that others won't.
sorta like the missing thumbnail problem that some D60's have, and others don't.

Thanks for the test. Scott
