View Full Version : Bag to hold the 20D with 17-40 with hood still on?

I hate taking hoods on and off ... so I am looking for suggestions of a small Lowepro snoot bag to take just the 20D + 17-40 in, but with the 17-40 still wearing its hood.
Any suggestions?
I've tried my Topload zoom 2 and my Nova 2, but they are just not big enough - the Nova 2 is not wide enough, and the TLZ2 is not square enough ...

I don't know about any Lowa Pro ones, but I have a small Eagle Creek bag, that has a sholder stap and a fanny pack strap. It's a bit on the light side as far as padding goes, but the camera and lens fit in there well with the hood, and it has a couple of straps that buckle on the bottom to carry a small tripod or what ever and there are a couple of zipper pockets and it's not very big. It costs about fifty bucks though. I've had mine for a year or two and really like it. It's sort of an incognito camera bag.

Are you using 17-40/4 with the hood that comes with the zoom or something else like EW-83D II (which is originally designed for 24/1.4L). At least my initial reaction to the hood that came with zoom was that it won't give whole lot protection and simply put it aside.

I am not sure if its wide enough, but Lowepor 65 AW seems to be little more depth in it than Topload Zoom 2.
Zoom 2 size is 7W x 5D x 9.75H in. / 18 x 12.5 x 25 cm
65 AW size is 6.5W x 6D x 8H in. / 16.5 x 15 x 20 cm
So you basically get 2.5cm / 1 in more depth into bag, which makes width and depth to be closer each others. This should nicely increase maximum radius of the lens + hood combo that you can put into it. I personally went for Lowepro 75 AW, because it was first one (on toploader AWs), which had enough space for my 20D + 70-200/4 with reversed hood combo. If I am not planning to use 70-200, then I have 20D + 17-40 (without hood) on top and and 50/1.8 at the bottom of the bag.
