Just received my long-waited 580EX, it looks very nice, smaller and has a better feel to it.
What really surprised me was the recycle time. With a set of fully charged 2300 mAh batteries, pilot light stayed on red no matter how many test flash i kept firing! It didn't even change to green or goes off for a split second! Of course, I didn't firing it non stop, but the improvement over 550EX is HUGE!
I haven't yet had a chance to test it thoroughly, but i'm sure i won't be disppointed! :D

Did I like it? I LOVE it! And I want a second one(if i can afford it)!
I'll be using it together with my other two 550EX to do some wireless flash experiments ;)

it's an awesome flash indeed... I bought mine a bit before Christmas as an early gift to myself :) And is there ever too much of a good thing? I want another 1 too, but that purchase will have to wait.... :(

I've had my 580EX for a little while now. I've been very impressed with it. I have some Ansmann 2500mAh NiMH rechargeables which I use in it and it makes a very impressive combination. I was particularly pleased with the reach and recharge time at the now infamous "Canoe Water Polo" event ;)

The Sigma 500DG is a less well made version of the 550EX not the 580EX.
