Can anyone direct me to a link or help me out with LR workflow reccomendations please ??
I have just crossed over from DPP and was hoping to avoid having too much trial and error by way of reccomendations from experienced members...

Try my workflow, it's bridge based but the programs are very similar. Link is from the faq link in my sig.

Step 1: Download LR 2 beta ;)
The beta adds a few a couple features that may really affect your workflow: local corrections and output sharpening.
I used LR 2 beta from start to finish for the last set of images that I did and I was quite pleased with the result. It's the closest thing I've ever used to a one stop shop for photo cataloging/editing.
My Workflow for LR 1.4:
1. Import into LR w/ adobe importer (files go into folders sorted by date)
1b. Tag/Add Meta Data (usually done during the import)
2. Flag picks to be edited
3. Adjust/correct levels and color (apply corrections to similar images)
4. Make any other image specific adjustments.
5. (optional) Open in CS3 for additional corrections
5b. (optional) Save and to back to LR
6. Batch export images as full resolution Tiffs
7. Run Image Processor in CS3 on the exported images to resize and sharpen image for intended use, convert to srgb for web if necessary.

Note that with the ability to apply local corrections, there is less need to go into CS3 or whatever pixel editor you use, so depending on the type of editing that you do, step 5 may be rarely necessary with LR 2. A pixel editor is still much more powerful for images that you want to get just right, but the LR tools are great for quick fixes.
Also note that ACR/LR has issues with color in some photos. These photos may take a fair amount of levels tweaking in LR, and at times it is easier simply to revert to DPP for the conversion. In cases where I use DPP as the converter I export as Tif in DPP and then import the Tif into LR and continue as usual.

Quite a few links and podcasts from here (http://inside-lightroom.com/index.php). And there's also LR killer tips (http://www.lightroomkillertips.com/archives/videos), and of course the forum sticky (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=315590) and the "similar Threads" on the bottom left of this page ;).

Will Adobe have an upgrade price for those moving from LR1.4 to LR2 ?
Or is that a stupid question ?

Yes, when the first digit of a release number changes, there's an upgrade cost. Based on the cost of version 1 though, I wouldn't expect the upgrade to be too expensive.
