Hi there
Can anyone let me know what the largest CF card size is that can be used with a G1.

Due to its age it probably is limited to FAT16 format rather than todays FAT32 so it likely has a limit of 2GB and even then is only achieved by formatting by your computer. The firmware on the G1 is likely limited to 1GB format or 512MB. I say this because I have owned two 1D classics of the same era and they have this limitation even on the Professional DSLR.
The good news is that the file sizes are so small on the G1 that even 1GB is very large and you can store many photos on it.

Thanks for the reply and advice. The camera belongs to a friend and he used it with a 2G card wich is now totally corrupt. It won't mount on Windows Vista or XP and it is not possible to format it in my 5D or his G1.
I have a good selection of recovery programs but as the card is not recognised they can't help.
I guess that it is an ex card.
Best wishes
