Album PhotoBook pricing

Hello Everyone,

I was approached by a client today and she asked me to quote her a photobook. I have a la carte pricing but I have never sold a photobook before. I would have to take the pictures and design the book. What are you guys charging for something like this?

Figure on time to edit the files and prepare them for the book.

Figure out what to pay yourself for the time it takes to design it.

I'm sure you don't want to just hand them a shipping box when it comes in so figure out what your costs are for packaging it nicely, presentation is everything.

Most photogs I know, end up with a markup around 2-3 times what the cost of the book is.

Now, the only problem is make sure you don't go with a book that has the pricing available to the public. A problem is sure to happen when a client can find the pricing on a website.

A problem is sure to happen when a client can find the pricing on a website. Why? Seems like everything else in the world gets marked up, & they need to pay for your time, or are you charging separately for that?

Charge for your time, both taking the photos and preparing the book. Or charge for your time to take the photos, and mark the book up 3x. Both should come out similar anyway.

No, I realize that everything else these days is marked up. What I'm saying is there are a lot of people who cause problems when they find out the same book that they can buy for $xx.xx don't want to pay your price. This is due to the fact they don't appreciate the time you take to design it. This is why I just stay away from the lower end books because quite a few are available to the general public.
