Hi, can someone let me know what is the method of reversing from the hacked firmware of the 300D to it's original factory setting?
I had read many thread and they all point out something to do with setting some binary settings., etc.
Can someone please be kind enough to point out exact steps required (bit by bit) what is required and to do. I am not familar with binary programming.
I plan on upgrading my 300D to join the "hacked" party so my camera can become a "9.5D".. hehe..
But before doing so, I want to make sure I can reverse the changes if I ever run into problems.
Thanks.

Yes, the changes can be reversed. You will have to reset the custom functions menu to the default settings (0,0,0,0,0,1,0,11,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0) before flashing the Canon firmware back onto the camera.

1) Reset all the CF to the original 300D settings. Note: you cannot use the Reset option in the menu, it does not affect the CF's. Below is a list of default binary values from left to right (The bottom numbers in the CF menu):
0,0,0,0,0,1,0,11,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0
2) Check to make sure the red-eye-reduction icon no longer blinks!!! If it is still blinking, you have not set all of the CF properly.
3) Flash back to 1.1.1.

Thanks. This is what I found also but I don't know what it means. This may sound like a dumb question, Is the Binary value something I find in the Camera's menu? or is it something I need to tweak with the firmware file *.FIR.
I don't know any binary programming nor want to risk playing around with the values because I may end up doing something wrong.

It's not binary programming, it's the settings of the custom functions in your menu.
Custom Functions are one of the new things you get with the hacked firmware that allows you to enable things like mirror lockup etc.

The purpose of the hack was to give you acces to custom fuctions.
The custom functions are set using values of 0-1 or 0-4 in same cases.
0,0,0,0,0,1,0,11,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0
the line above of digits is the values to which you need to set the custoom functions BEFORE re-flashing your camera with stock firmware
ei
Set Custom function #1 to 0
CF #2 to 0
and so on...

Thanks... This is great!...
I look forward to modifying my camera this week and see how it goes.

Do you have to download the OEM frimware from a website?
Personaly I did not like the hack due to two reasons:
1) AI Servo does not work ( well it does but you have to switch it to MF before shooting)
2) The amount of pictures have decreased. Instead of usually shooting around 140 shots per 512mb cf card, I am now only shooting 121 shots per 512.
I have all the binary digits set to default, I just want the hack off my camera.

This is a good point. Are you shooting in Raw or JPG?
What I am curious is if there is any difference to the files Before and after the HACK.

I shoot RAW and changed the file size (Cf-8 ) to RAW+ Small Normal Jpeg, and my shots increased from 279 to 309 in a 2GB card.

The hack does not disable AI Servo, it merely allows you to select it as a focus option. The fact that it does not work properly is beside the point - you have nothing less than you did before the hack. The benefit that you do have is the ability to select One-shot focus instead of the camera always being in the AI focus where it determines the focus mode for you.
The number of pictures should not decrease unless you selected a higher quality setting after the hack was installed. In fact, as someone pointed out, in RAW mode you can actually get more pictures on the card by selecting smaller JPEG files. Files before and after the hack will be the same as long as quality/compression settings are the same. File size is dependent on the amount of detail in the picture and the number of files per card varies depending on the subjects being shot.
Have you tried the other benefits that many consider very important, including:
1) Flash exposure compensation
2) Flash-sync selectable as 1/200 or variable shutter speed
3) Mirror lock-up
I have had nothing but good experience with the hack and truly appreciate the features that it provides. Just another opinion...

Huh? Decreased? Mine increase by a few, change the jpg quality for raw.
Also you can get AI Servo to work without MF, just let up on the shutter and hit it really fast. Might seem annoying but its super fast and simple once you learn it.

Obviously you don't use/need the hack-enabled features FEC, MLU, set flash synch speed, and AF OneShot. In this case, please go back to the original Canon firmware and do me a favor: don't unsettle the people in this forum. The hack is safe and doesn't give you ANY technical disadvantages.
BTW: you forgot to mention that the hack doesn't give you a black magnesium body.

The hack may be good for some people, Im not one of those people. See the thing Is I set the C.Fn (#16) to 11 what it shoud be for normal non-hacked firmware. Its set at RAW+Medium/Fine. I get no RAW files when I open up the cf card on my computer. Its set on the actuall camera settings at Large Fine. So I get Large/Fine pictures but no RAW, but then I get less pictures from my card when It should be back to the exact settings before I installed the hacked firmware. That doesnt make no sense to me at all.

One question... MF = manual focus? If so, how would AI Servo be able to do it'a thing if the lens is in manual focus mode?

Zamora3, the hack allows you to set the jpg size in the RAW file; you still have to change the Quality to RAW to enable shooting in RAW. (1st page of the menu)

You must have no idea what you are doing then, no offense. The hack is very safe from ewhat I have seen, and only ads features, it does not remove ANYTHING you had before. Size will actually go down, as now you can choose smaller preview Jpegs.

Well, I just installed the hack firmware... and its no different from the original except for the cfs. I have had no problems, and actually set to the Raw+Large/Fine JPG. Makes it easier for me to deal with jpgs but I don't miss out on the Raws if I want to alter it. Thats the whole reason I downloaded it. Haven't played with the other functions yet, not sure I completely understand the benefits to all of them. I was nervous before I did it, but now that its done, the camera performs the same as it did before. Who doesn't want extra funcutions for no extra money???

Wow.. Thanks everyone... I will certainly look forward to the upgrade. More and more I think about it, it's worth the try since it is totally reversable. The only concern remaining, is the Hack once removed or changed back detectable by Canon? For camera's out of warranty, who cares, but ones that still have it, should I worry?

no it's not detectible for canon once you reversed it to the original firmware.

So you're not shooting in RAW, but in JPEG. You say you're not getting as many JPEGs on a card as before? Have you changed the JPEG quality (on the LCD)? What about the ISO (higher ISO means bigger files so less per card)?
The hack does not change the size of JPEG files, so it is in no way responsible for the change you are seeing.
Personally I was missing the flash compensation I had on my Sony F717. It's great to have it back. Sometimes I don't want the flash (420EX) to flood what I'm shooting in the foreground. I usually have it turned down and only hoof it back up for bounce flash shots.

I think Zamora3 is onto something but was probably not clearly stated.
I finally upgraded (flashed) my firmware to the hack.. Hurray!!!
What I am now noticing is depending on the ISO used, the amount of shots will decrease.
Here's what I've done. I have a blank 1GB flash card.
When set to:
Large, ISO 100, Remaining Image = 316
Large, ISO 3200, Remaining Image = 209
RAW+L, ISO 100, REmaining image = 118
RAW+L, ISO 3200, REmaining image = 95
--------------------
Then I further tested using only Large setting and here's the rundown.
Large, ISO=100, Remain = 316
Large, ISO=200, Remain = 311
Large, ISO=400, Remain = 287
Large, ISO=800, Remain = 263
Large, ISO=1600, Remain = 244
Large, ISO=3600, Remain = 209
Any clue? Unfortunatley I did not do this test BEFORE i've flashed the camera, therefore I have no benchmark. Also, is there any image quality difference? ie. photo taken at ISO1600 before and after upgrade.

I found that the AI Servo does work with the hack, but not exactly as you would want.
1)With the hack installed, select "AI SE".
2)then set the drive mode to "continuous" (works with single shot, too)
3) half press the shutter to enable the AI Servo.
4) when you want to take the picture, quickly release the shutter then press it down all the way in one swift motion
5)if you're in continuous, the camera will refocus inbetween shots if you hold down the shutter button
with practice, AI Servo on the rebel can really rock
