We just recently received this cool looking red and white sponge, or at least we thought it was a sponge. After being in a tank for a couple days and settling down, the white "sponge" opened up. This white "sponge" turned out to be a colonial sea anemone growing on a sponge. I have not been able to get much info on it as it does not seem to be common to the trade. The anemones are about .5 cm in diameter, and again the pic is taken through glass. The sponge anemone came in from Australia.

Thanks guys. We were very excited to receive it. We are hoping that there is some symbiotic releationship between the two. typically sponges do not do well when moved. They grow to a very specific environment, and changing just one variable often causes them to die back. Hopefully the sponge will benifit from the anemone. Only time will tell.
