I was at the Lowell spinners game (Class A Red Sox team). I was ~80ft and had to crop the picture a bit. C&C is welcome.

Nice capture, but I feel the composition is wrong. Since you had to crop alot anyway, leave some room to the right, in front of the player. Put him in the left 1/3 of the frame and it's a winner.
And just to be picky, very picky here, why not shoot at 2.8 instead of 5.6? With that great light you could lower ISO to 100, open to 2.8, get the (same) exposure and blur the background more. If it's possible for you, get lower so there's no distracting field-lines-dirt in the background.
Otherwise, great colors, lighting, timing and sharpness. Not bad at all.

Regards,

John.

Much better crop with the added benefit of his shadow which kind of makes this a neat photo. I'd also agree with John on the aperture setting. Also, while the light is very nice, it seems a touch dark on my monitor. The uniform could be just a bit more white/bright to really make the photo pop!
Cheers!

This crop is much better. I also like the shadow effect.

A little more PP...

good shot. i wouldn't worry about the ISO noise difference between 100 and 200. i also agree that you wouldn't need to shoot wide open...this lens gets a bit sharper when stopped down; maybe @ f/4 is a good compromise?

I actually like the first crop better than the second, the first might be a little tight but the second is too loose. I also like the color better on your edit. It is a nice shot though.

I like the additional PP ... the skin tones in the original version looked a little red on my moniter and the extra light seems to make him stand out from the background a little more.

I agree. Crop wise, I'm not sure. Somewhere in between the final and the first one probably gets me going.

The second crop for me. If we had not seen the first one, our eyes would have jumped to the shadow, which looks like a posing body builder.

I think the skin tones are better on the second but they're both top notch pictures. Ya gotta LOVE that lens.
