View Full Version : Calling PC whizz kids - Colour Calibration problem

As I was having issues with my monitor colours, I thought I ought to purchase a colour calibration tool to make sure I have the correct settings.
A good friend has loaned me their Spyder2pro to see how I get on with it, before buying one or a Pantone Huey.
Last night I spent hours with the Spyder preparing my PC monitor as advised. I disabled the Adobe Gamma Loader and Adobe Gamma. I also disabled the Norton Anti-Virus programme. I familiarised myself with the monitor on screen display controls and systematically loaded the software for the Spyder. Plugged the Spyder into the USB (powered port) and it went through the calibration process quite smoothly. However, at the end of the process, there was an error box saying - sorry no calbration data was found in the profile sRGB Color Space Profile for monitor 'default monitor'. Please select a different profile using 'profile chooser' (1168).
I started the process again from the beginning and this time after it had finished the calibration it said Sorry, there was a problem calculating the correction curve for the display.
Clear as mud!
Could any of you guys advise as to what I did wrong? Have any of you experienced these errors before?
For now, I have enabled the Adobe Gamma & AG Loader in the start-up menu.

Gosh, is there nobody out there can help me with this problem? I don't know where to go from here.

I get the same thing with my spyder but it still does the calibration and creates the profile correctly. Has it applied the profile it created? Do you see a colour change from what it was before your started?

Thanks HankScorpio ...No, it hasn't applied a profile and no it has not changed the colour.

Not sure what the problem is, but you don't need to disable your anti-virus for it.

Gilly B,
The profile you created will be there.
Go to the profile chooser and select the profile that you created. That's all you need to do. If you cannot see the profile in the profile chooser then click the show all monitor profiles button at the bottom to 'unhide' them.

In the 'before you start' instructions leaflet of the Spyder is says to - verify that any anti-virus software is disabled prior to installation, and that screen savers are deactivated before calibration. Which of course, I did.

I have searched for a profile and unable to find one. In the 'display' menu and under advance properties, colour management, I found the original sRGB colour space profile set as default.
I am nervous about disabling all of things again and messing up my PC. Everytime it starts up now I get a start configuration menu with lots of options I don't understand - including start-up with custom settings. This is where I am out of my depth.

The profile choose is piece of software that the spyder installs and there is usually a shortcut on the desktop.
If your're still lost then maybe it'll be best to uninstall the spyder software, if you haven't already done so as it will keep trying to load a profile every time you boot.

If you're using FireFox 3 with color management enabled then make sure you close your browser before trying to use the Spyder. FF locks all the color profiles on your system while it's open.

try referencing that sticky, it helped me a lot a couple of weeks ago when my monitor colors were all skewed... i thought i needed a calibrator, but it turns out my gamma and brightness and contrasts were all over the place, so i just followed that sticky, corrected most of it, and then saved the profile under Adobe Gamma... hope that helps!

Bit unclear to me why the software would say
sorry no calbration data was found in the profile sRGB Color Space Profile for monitor 'default monitor'.
What does sRGB have to do with it? I'd assume you'd be using / trying to create a device specific (monitor) profile?
If you have set sRGB for your monitor profile prior to calibrating, maybe try to set a device specific profile.
That being said, I have no personal experience with either the Spyder, nor it's software, nor windows. So I cannot be of much help I'm afraid.
