i mentioned this in another post, but my day job (IT for a lawfirm) has asked me to take headshots of everyone in the firm (about 250 people). i talked them into $600 budget to buy some more equipment. so this is what i've come up with. i would love your input

cybersync transmitter and 2 receivers
sigma ef-530 dg super (i need an extra e-ttl flash for my wife's camera)
alzo speedlight softbox
580 replacement foot with sync and vivitar to pocketwizard (et al) cable from flash zebrai think that is it. i already have the 580I, 285HV, 283, some optical slaves, various umbrellas, stands, background, light meter, reflectors

What does you needing a flash for your wife's camera have to do with your job?

I don't know.. it sounds like the firm is buying all this equipment for you? Maybe I just understand it wrong. Sorry.

If I had a budget of $600 dollars (beyond what I was being paid to do the shoot) I would invest in some stronger strobe gear. Something like an AB800. That's only if you are going to find future use for it of course. You seem to have justification for everything on your list so unless you foresee a use for stronger lighting, stick with that.

yes, they are buying this for me. sort of as payment for my services. i don't mind shooting on the clock without extra compensation anyway. needing an extra flash for my wife camera is related to my outside work as a photographer which is why i am getting it instead of a monolight.

i thought about a monolight, but i think the sigma will do just fine for these headshots. plus it is cheaper and will be put to better use for my photography outside of this project.
