Forgot to add - heavy post processing. I'm working on a series of photos using 5 different horses and a foal. I'm interesting in how I can remove them from the environment of the farm (or use it there at times) and put them in the city or do some post processing to get different effects. Basically, I'm projecting myself/emotions/politics/ etc into or onto the horses.
Thought I should explain that since it might be hard to figure out what the heck i'm doing here.....
In this case, I was playing around with isolation/lonliness/out of sorts or character.
There was heavy post processing here....8 different layers to achieve the effect. This was a straight up shot - black horse, white snow, grey sky.

Too flat - the gray background looks strange. I wonder, have you adjusted your monitor lately?

Frank -

Yes my monitor is pretty well adjusted .....I run adobe gamma and I have all the phosphor settings, gamma setting, and white balance settings for my monitor....thus everything is customized instead of just a few adjustments from adobe gamma.
I know the background is strange and flat - I used 8 layers to actually achieve the effect.....I also have four different ranges of color on the photo....from this one to normal. Its wierd, but I actually wanted this effect. (so maybe I am getting somewhere after shooting for a year almost every day and post processing trying to get certain effects)...

I can post all four shots to show how I got here if anyone wants to see them.

Thanks for responding! I know now I did get the flat range I wanted.
