PC Sync Cord?

My equipment is at home so I could use your help please...

For the 40D do I need a male-to-female PC sync cord? or male-to-male? (I am NOT using the hotshoe, I'm using the PC connector on the side.)

I'm planning to try some indoor portraits with my new 580EXII off camera - using a shoot through umbrella - so I'm going the cheap and simple route for starters. Thanks!

The PC port on the camera and the flash is a "jack" which is female in gender, so you need a PC "plug" to PC "plug" sync cord (male to male). You can extend this length using a PC extension cord which will be PC "plug" to PC "jack" (male to female).
