Virgin off camera flasher here:) I have always been a natural light kinda of guy! I recently got a steal on an ST-E2 and finally got a chance to give it a try.

My setup- ST-E2 on camera with 430EX off camera. Flash was positioned approx 45 deg to right of subject about 3 ft above. Flash was bounced with Demb Flip it at 45 deg forward. I thought that this would give a result somewhere near an umbrella, but obviously not as efficient.

It seems that since I have always loved natural light it was kind of the shot I unconsciously set up.

Just a minor levels tweak and a tad of sharpening.

I am thinking that I need either a reflector or another flash cranked down to give a tad more fill to the left side of the face.

What do you guys think?

A little hot on the right side.
But it does kind of look like the model is in sunlight so not so bad.
Reflection on the left could be good
but you already have a bunch coming up from the floor on the left.
Flashing into a bed sheet will do the same as an umbrella in a pinch.

The right side is much too hot for my tastes. And yes, a reflector camera left would help a lot.

The image also looks soft.

I was playing around with this image on a non-calibrated monitor. Looking at it on calibrated monitor the right side is too hot. The problem seems to be getting a nice exposed right side without having the left totally dark. I guess the reflector would alleviate that.

Softness must be from resizing as the original RAW is tack sharp. I guess I should really start doing it in CS3 instead of the little XP add on I use!
