I want to get a longer reach but I cannot afford Canon 600mm L or even longer. I wanna know whether or not Canon 2X Teleconverter will be working fine with my Signa 80-400mm OS EX?
Thanks.

According to Sigma's web site the lens is compatible with the Sigma 2x Telecon. As it has the same physical design as the Canon 2x telecon, I would presume it will work - after a fashion.
It's really questionable just how useful a 160-800mm f/9-f/11 lens will actually be. You will need an awful lot of light to do anything useful with it. That combination will not autofocus on any Canon EOS body.

It will not work with the Canon 2.0x
The Canon convertors only work with Canon L lenses.

Sorry, but you are wrong. My Canon EF Extender 2x II works perfectly well with my Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8. All that they need is a telephoto lens with a recessed rear element... same as the Sigma TCs.

...and I use a Canon 2X on a Sigma 500mm...
I just updated our own chart;T-Con Info charts (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=284148#post284148) to include info I found on Sigma's Website.

According to Sigma the lens will work with both of Sigma's own T-cons. In the case of the 2X Autofocus will of course be lost alltogether.. with the 1.4X you should be able to retain AF on a 1 series digtal.
I can not confirm this first hand with this particular lens.. but it has been my expeirience that any Sigma lens that will work with the Sigma t-cons .. will also work with the Canon T-cons.
However.. if you do not own the T-con and are considering buying one.. you may want to pay half and get Sigma's T-cons instead.

O.K. How about going in the other direction? Will my Sigma 1.4x EX converter work with my 300 F4 L? If I read the sticky correctly, it looks like it would. I'm I right.

It should, yes. I've used my Sigma 1.4x on my 100-400L and 70-200 f/4L with good results. From what I have seen the Sigma and Canon teleconvertors are interchangeable. They have the same restrictions in terms of the lenses they won't work with too. The physical designs of the two are very similar.

Oh man, you guys made my day. I am going to test it when I get home. Having a 420MM 5.6 is going to be great If I don't lose much quality.

Our Chart;

....lists the Canon lenses that will work with Sigma T-cons as well... check it out.. yours will work fine.
Is yours the IS 300?
Either way it'll work very well with a 1.4X

Hey CDS, since I know you own/have owned both, how would you compare the Sigma 1.4 to Canon's in terms of quality loss?

Actually I don't own the Canon 1.4.. I do own both Canon and Sigma 2X.. for reasons I can't readily explain right now.. but I only own the Sigma 1.4X currently.
I have used the Canon though.. and though I never did any tests.. I did find that the two are quite comparible. (Canon Vs. Sigma)
I use the Sigma 1.4X on the 70-200mm for quite some time before I got a 100-400mm. Sill do on occasion,. and with the 200mm f/1.8 ... even through the Sigma T-con .. I still get the sharpest images of any lens I own.
I find the best bet is to match the brands though... I got the Sigmas not because they were a lot cheaper.. but because I was at the time using almost exclusively Sigma lenses.. to this day.. even though the rest of my kit has gone all Canon... I still have the Big Sigma 500mm as my birding prime.. and thus retain the Sigma 1.4X
At some point though I will get eht Canon 1.4X... and may just keep both.
Bottom line.. if you own the Sigma 1.4X I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how well it works with your 300mm :)

Well i did some tests indoor using my son since it's dark here. This is probably not a good test scenario but I'm o.k with the results. This is a 100% crop with the Canon 300 F4 L and the Sigma 1.4x. Focus point was near corner of eye.
