These larva abseil down from my apple tree, land on the rhododendrons underneath and then promptly make a hammock to go to sleep in :).
Can't really understand why they don't pupate up in the apple tree unless they require a non-deciduous leaf to pupate on.
2nd shot is a 7 shot animated GIF showing it web spinning which they appear to do from the mouth end. The last shot is the same larva the next day

Lovely shots. That larva looked almost like jade beads necklace :D..cute animation too!
