The official thread is now here...

ideas / suggestions / confirmations / etc.....

right people....

We have a trip coming up...

dates 15th August 2008 - evening start.... (last pick up at airport at 8:30 pm)

Drive to the coromadel - (eastside) spend night in back packers / motel (approx $30 each) .

shoot all day saturday - sunrise -> sunset (varied locations) - but catherdral cove is a must....

Drive back to Auckland Saturday evening / night... (aftersunset) dispurse into the night or have a gathering at a GKPEr's house.

I would estamte that the whole trip will cost about $60 each plus whatever food and drink you wish to buy...

I have started a new thread here -> click it

so lets begin...

Asked for some days off today. Just waiting on the outcome. Hopefully tomorrow I'll know.

Now, if all is well I won't fly out until Monday so who will still be around on Sunday? And is there a bed for the night for Sunday?

What time on Monday?

I work near the airport, and we have a spare bed here.
We have 2, but they would be in the same room.

Anyone know if you need to get there 1 hour early for flights to Oz?
If so it would mean getting to the airport at 6am, and its a half hour drive from my place.

This I reckon is BS. They just don't want an international flight rocking up just as the desk is closing. I've been in a queue for over an hour and people were still joining at the back. Did they get on?, yes.

All booked . Land 18.15 on 15/8 and fly out 18/8 at 7.10. Now I have to update my lenses. I don't think you lot will be impressed with a 70-300 POS and a 28-135 hanging off a 1 series!!! And I need some filters, need to buy a big tin of Quality Street.

Mark Vuleta

Great news Tag, be great to finally put a face to what was the "mouth of the south"

There will be plenty of lenses for you to try, is camera gear dearer in Aus than here?

::John::

Mark

This is one of the more popular importers (http://www.d-d-photographics.com/index.htm). You can see his prices are, in general, a bit better than many of the ones you have over there - and he has a store in Sydney now which means we can just walk in and pay those prices you see in the list.

Mark Vuleta
23rd of July 2008 (Wed), 07:20
Thanks John but I was just making a general enquiry.

I've got more lenses than I deserve esp. considering the use that I put them too:rolleyes::oops::oops:

I wasn't meaning for you to buy - I was just showing you one of the sites so you could compare prices.

For example, we can get the 1DMk3 for around $4500 now.

The 1Ds3 is under 9K

Bloody good show old chap.

So we can collect you from the airport easy enough, but not sure about getting you back on the return flight :p

I'm quite happy to hang around the airport for a while until Manipula lands from Welly. Save some tooing and froing (plus I can get some fodder from some spotty face dweeb in a fast food joint). Unless of course it isn't really a problem then a pick up would be grand.

Sunday night shouldn't be a problemo if there is an airport hotel/motel/bench near the airport and someone can throw me out of a moving vehicle. Unless of course.....

but yes, I'm all booked. This obviously means next time there is a GKPE somewhere, no locals can back out saying they can't make it.

Moppie

Well I work near the airport, and will take the afternoon off to collect the shrimper when he arrives at 12ish.

At this point I don't know if i will have the work van with seats in it, my fathers van with more seats in it, or if we are using someone else's transport (I think Mark has a van with seats in it, and we havn't heard from either of the teleco taxi's).

Still have to figure out where everyone is staying yet.

At the moment I think we need one more bed.
I have a couch, but a: You wouldn't want to sleep on it, and b: 4 men sharing a bathroom would drive Amanda crazy, and not in a good way.

I will have the van if required, however, I will have to come back for late Saturday afternoon as I've got a "Hot & Funky"? 40th birthday party on Saturday night (not sure which one I'm going as yet)

So if people didn't want to come back that early, it's probably not worth taking the bus & I'll go down in one of the small cars.

If everyone pulls out, I'm still coming over. Can't be bothered hanging onto to another flight credit for a year.

Are we organising anything for the Sunday?

No one is pulling out. Sunday we could play by ear

I think you're pretty safe Tag. There are some solid people involved so even if some of the others pull out, there will be a hard core of individuals (rain, hail or shine) who will be going.

Remember, in order to transcend the astral plane, you must sometimes work towards freedom by fire, through which an altered, heightened satate of awareness can be achieved.

I have no idea what I'm talking about either, but turn up, and the trip will happen.

Personally, I'm not looking forward to meeting you at all. But that's only because you scare me. Bring me some of those cheap Aussie HoneyPuff knock-offs, what are they called "Honey Wheats" or something?

I have just watched Border Control. Tag - if you bow to klippes request, don't forget to declare them - or you might find yourself in the strip search room - hmmmm - ok - forget I said that... ;)

Has anyone been the cove before?

Looking at the google earth images and the maps here: http://www.panoramio.com/photo/4327282

It looks like either a short drive down a nasty road that might or not be open, or a long walk from a nice car park just out of Hahei.

Cant get to it at high tide via the beach. The local we spoke to said its a drive up to carpark at top then 20 min walk down to the cove

Woah hang on a minute, that's what we're going to shoot is it?

I'm all for sorting out a plan instead of going for it and cocking up the trip through no preparation but I see very little there that fits in with my 'it's bleak and baron and depressing like my head' life ideal. ;) Mind if I bring a deckchair and just watch the sun come up? :p

What a soggy icecream shat on by a seagull from a great height? ;)

Fact remains I'm not convinced by this group shooting thing in terms of me actually ending up taking photos the way I'd normally take them. I'm not sure being around so many others will not affect how I work (even if that means a bunch of blokes acting the tit on the beach giggling). That said, frankly it doesn't really matter, as at the end of the day the chance to be up there in that sort of scenery will score big on the smile-o-meter regardless! :D 8)

Two boxes on order if you're going to be spouting that stuff. A really bad el cheapo Aussie brand.

Ive been there a few times, one of my most fave places but for you Dave, prolly need the deck chair and accessories (including shat on ice-cream) because unless the weather is seriously crap, its way to pretty for you ;).

Still its the company and adventure that counts hey?

You basically park at top and walk down (more then 20 mins) to the cove, its very popular so we should be out before the crowds come. Pretty steep down and then up again, I know I will need a V or two to get me back up with my heavy gear :o.

Do we know where we are staying?

By the way Shrimper. I definitely have more hair than Stig #1 (Perry McCarthy) and I probably have more hair than the current Stig (Ben Collins). Collins is definitely thinning.

So there!

Moppie

Chris is working on Accomdation.

Transport so far is the following:

1x 6 seater van. So we need another 3 seats somewhere.

Spoke with Chris last night, since I work near the airport I will leave when he lands and pick him up, then we can find something to do for the afternoon, pick up two other people (of which Cliff will be one, whether he likes it or not) and then head out to the airport to meet you and Dave.
Hopefully the other transport can meet us there, and we can all head off to the Coro.

Damn, 1 down, it was starting to look like we might get a full compliment to.

I put the seats in the van on Friday afternoon.
Looks better and is quiter to drive with the carpet back in it too.
There are also 6 seat belts in the back, but you would only want to go 3 wide on the back seats if your the sort of fellow who made Tony or Cliff look over weight.
